The government-backed hospitality trial was designed to help smaller pubs, restaurants, cafés and hotels use smart-meter data to identify energy and carbon-saving opportunities.

According to the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, the scheme was expected to support more than 600 small and medium-sized hospitality businesses, with potential energy bill savings of more than £3 million and carbon reductions of around 2,700 tonnes.

Warehouses can have large, high-bay lighting systems, heating systems, loading equipment, compressors, pumps and charging infrastructure.

The building may be empty for long periods, yet significant energy use continues.

For landlords, overnight baseload is not only a cost issue. It can also affect tenant relationships, asset performance and future compliance planning.
